Description

Caffeine acts as a competitive antagonist at adenosine receptors -- particularly the A₁ and A₂A subtypes -- thereby promoting wakefulness and modifying the activity of key neurotransmitters, including dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, within the central nervous system.
